Yahoo! UK & Ireland Issues

Introduction

Yahoo! UK & Ireland operate the services for users with .co.uk mail accounts who signed up for their Yahoo! Services (Mail,Chat,Messeger etc...) in the UK or Ireland, or downloaded their software from the .co.uk or .ie servers. As this part of Yahoo! deals with it's own users, it has the power and ability to limit and edit features.

Yahoo! are withdrawing chat services from Europe, including Yahoo! UK & Ireland. In a deal with Lycos, users will be directed to Lycos where they will require a new nickname to chat, and lose contact with old peers. Read My Lycos Experience.

Adult & User Rooms

I cannot see/enter/view adult rooms or user rooms
This is a common question. Yahoo! UK & Ireland disabled the listing of User rooms and Adult rooms in their Yahoo! Messenger software.
The theory is that paedophiles use user rooms and adult rooms to distribute and find content, and that they target certain rooms. They are more likely to use these rooms as only people with similar 'interests' enter these rooms as they are not on the public Yahoo! list, and so people are not just going to surf into these rooms and notice what goes on. It's also the case that pornographic content, including images and webcams are spread through the adult rooms, and that no sufficient action is taken to ensure that younger users are protected from them.
Pressure groups complained for long enough and Yahoo! UK & Ireland decided to stop listing these rooms on their Messenger software. This means if you have the UK & Ireland version of Yahoo! Messenger, you will not see Adult rooms listed under Romance, nor will you see any User rooms on the User room tab, it's slighting confusing why the UK messenger doesn't just remove that tab altogether.
Although they are not listed, they are still accessible. If you are an adult (over 18) you can type /join roomname in the chat input box, and whatever you specify as roomname, you will enter. A program to aid this is YahRooLS which will list rooms for whatever country you specify, you must login to prove you're an adult however.
The other way around this if you are an adult, is to use the Yahoo! Messenger from the US servers at http://messenger.yahoo.com

Yahoo! Adult Profiles

I cannot view adult profiles
This is also another common question. For the same reasons as provided above, Yahoo! Adult profiles are not available to UK users, no matter how old you are. This is done by the date of birth and country on your account, you cannot change these, it's NOT your profile details.
