Sending and Receiving Email

Once you have set up Outlook Express, sending and receiving mail is very easy.

To Receive Mail

Just click on the Send/Rcv button. Outlook Express connects to the Internet and collects all the emails and displays them in the Inbox.  Just double click the EMail to open a new window with the content. For those of you, who have not disabled the preview function, a word of warning: The preview window automatically opens the email to display the content. If there are any trojans onboard that are coupled to the opening of the email .. then sorry! Too late. I seriously recommend disabling the preview window. That way, you can delete an Email from the Inbox, without having opened it.

Disable Previewing (Recommended)

To disable the preview, click on View then on Layout... and uncheck the option Use the preview pane to quickly show a message without opening a seperate window.

To Send Mail

Click on the New Mail button. A new window opens up. In the To: field enter the email address of the recipient. If you want to send the same mail to more than one recipient, separate the names with a semicolon (;).

If you want to send copies of the email addressed to someone for information purposes to somebody else, enter the address of the recipient of the copy in the Cc: field.

If you want to send blind copies of the email then enter the email addresses of the recipients in the Bcc: field. When the email addresses are in the To: or Cc: fields, all recipients see the addresses of all the other fellow recipients. If you use the Bcc: field the recipient just sees his address and nobody else's.

After addressing the mail, enter a subject in the Subject: field then type your text in the text box. Click on Send. Depending on your settings, the email will either be sent immediately or placed in the outbox till the next time you log in to your mail server.
