Removing the splash screen

If the splash screen that appears every time you start Outlook Express annoys you, as it does to me - specially since it takes so long to go away, you can remove it by editing the Registry. But beware - Registry editing is a tricky thing. You have to get it exactly right or you might do some lasting damage. ALWAYS! Back up your registry before making manual changes. If something does go wrong you can easily restore it.

Click on the START button
Choose Run
Type in Regedit
Press OK

On the left hand double click each of the entries to open the subsequent folders and choose the next heading
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Identities
{60C1DB40-3D7D-11D3-9948-E8F007254B26} or similar
Software
Microsoft Outlook Express

5.0
(Even if you have 6.0 it probably says 5.0 here)

Now on the right hand side of the window:

Right click a free area and choose New > DWORD-Value
Name the new Value NoSplash
Double click it and enter 1 as Value (hex)
Click on OK
Close the Registry file
Restart Outlook Express.
