PM Box wont send PMs?

No PM sending in Java chat?

If when you try to send a PM/IM nothing hapens, the text stays in the box, this is because you're using Java Chat or Chat2.0 with the Sun Java Runtime Environment.

Why doesn't it work?

It became apparent that for Sun Java users using Internet Explorer, the PM function of Yahoo! Messenger failed to work. In addition to PMs, profiles will not launch from Chat or from Yahoo! Games, this is not by design, but appears to be an error, a combination between Yahoo!, Internet Explorer and Sun Java.

It is BY DESIGN that Yahoo! Webcam and Yahoo! Voice chat do not work when using Sun Java.

Help us make this fix better!

This fix asks you to abandon using Sun, but we like Sun, not Microsoft. You can help us help you, by doing the following. After you have sent an IM that didn't leave the box, please look near your clock for a Java coffee cup, it may be hidden, click the double arrow to show it. Right click the coffee cup and choose open console. When it appears, click "copy". Please paste the text that it has copied in an email to contact@helpbytes.co.uk.

We know that Sun Java creates this issue for you, but we and many other users can use Yahoo! Chat and IMs fine with Sun Java, and so there must be something specific we are missing. We would appreciate any info you can provide.

How To Fix

Method 1: If you're using an old Sun Java runtime (for instance if you've never updated this since downloading or buying your PC) update it, at The Java Website.

Method 2: You may decide that you want Yahoo! Webcam and Voice Chat, in which case you need to check if you have Microsoft runtimes, make them default, or download them, you can find out how at Delta Knight or below.

Checking for Microsoft Java & Making default

If the blue box above appears, it tells you wether your Java is Sun, Microsoft or Other.

If the box says Microsoft, you have a new problem go to The Forums and state the details.

If the box says Sun or Other
Go to Start, Run.
Type wjview
Press OK.

If you get a file not found error, Download Virtual Machine (not win 2000).

If you get information, click on OK. Now do the following:
Go to Start, Control Panel. Click on Internet Options.
Go to the Advanced tab.
Find "Java(Sun)" in the list.
Untick the box "Use Sun Java".
Close all Internet Explorer windows, and try chat again.
