Backing up the registry
To backup the registry before you edit anything, select my computer and click export registry file, and choose a location and name you will remember.  To restore, select Import registry file, or double click the file.

If you only plan on editing a section of the registry, choose the folder on the left you will be editing, and export registry file.  Restore in the same manner as above.

Manual way to amend the ads
Open a registry editor such as regedit,   start>>run type regedit and click ok.

The root key is  HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Then:

    Software
    Yahoo
    Pager
    yurl

You may now see something on the right hand side, maybe just: (default) Value Not Set. If you see "Chat Adurl" skip the add new string on this text.

Now click Edit, and select new, then "String Value".

On the right hand side you will now see a new value, named "New Value #1" ready to edit.  Change "New Value #1" to "Chat Adurl" (without the quotes "").  Now press enter.

Double click on the text you just wrote in, and you will get a new box appear asking for the Value Data, enter the name of any webpage on or off the internet, any file on or off the internet, or any image on or off the internet.  Files on your hdd should begin with c:\ (or the drive letter, eg d:\).  Once this is entered, click ok, exit the registry editor.  Restart the chat screen.  You should see your own image!

Can I edit other things?
Edit at your own risk:

Ychat Feed  -  The Yahoo! Roomlist setting! (eg, http://chat.yahoo.com/c/roomlist.html), to change the country of your roomlists, change the .com to your country, ie .de (germany)
Webcam Viewer Ad - The ad that appears in the Webcam Viewer.
View Profiles - The first part of the Profile URLs (eg http://profiles.yahoo.com/ )
Personals Alert Ad URL - The ad that appears in the Personals Alert
News Alert Ad URL - The ad that appears in News Alert
Mail Alert Ad URL - The ad that appears in the Mail Alert
Mail - The mail URL (eg http://mail.yahoo.com/ or http://mail.yahoo.de)
IMVironment Ad URL - The ad that appears in the IMVironment Selection screen
Change Room Banner - The ad that appears when you change room
Calendar Alert Ad URL - The ad that appears in your calendar alert.
Conf Adurl - The conference ad banner.
Chat Transition Ad - The ad that appears when your first join a chat room.

These are not them all!!  Some of them might already exist, the others you can add like above, changing "Chat Adurl" for the above value.  You might want to change these to match your own countries settings in the event you prefer another countries messenger.
