Java Problems

Problems???
Java applets not loading? Do you need to update Microsoft Virtual Machine? Yahoo! Chat applets freezing?
This page will guide you step by step on finding the root of the problem, and then solve it!

(1) If the java applet says its unable to run java on your system, or if you get a message about java or active x being disabled, or if the screen stays blank or gray, click here

(2) If you see the following message (or similar) click here

Unable to load applet.

You may need to download an updated version of the Microsoft VM from:

 http://www.microsoft.com/java

(3) If you see none of the above, click here.

If your problem does not get solved on this page, please post on our forum, where we will answer asap.  This also allows us to target your specific problem.  http://forum.helpbytes.co.uk (Don't worry if you're first to post, someone has to, and it's anonymous).

Problem 1

The cause could be one of two problems, Firstly, you have java disabled, or you don't have a Java Virtual Machine.

It may seem appropriate to set your security at "High" - but this disables Java!!!!

To Enable Java in Internet Explorer:
Tools>>Internet Options, select the "security" tab.  Select custom level... so you can over ride the default pre sets.  Scroll down to "Microsoft VM", and under Java Permission, if disable java is set, place a check instead by "medium safety".  Click OK, OK again, and retry loading a Java Applet.

To Enabled Java in Netscape:
Edit>>Preferences, select the "advanced" option on the left.  Ensure a check is placed by "Enable Java"  Click OK, and try loading a java applet again.

Now try again to access the Java Applet, if it works, great!!  If not, click here.

Problem 2

Two possible issues here, firstly you have no Java Virtual Machine, or secondly you have Sun Java Virtual Machine running.

To disable sun java (try this, even if you don't think you have sun) - it doesn't work with Yahoo! Chat
Tools>>Internet Options,  select the "advanced" tab.  Scroll down the list until you see "Java (Sun)".  Remove the check from "Use Java 2 .... for <applet>".
Click apply.  Restart Internet Explorer.  Try the applet again, it works, great!! If not, click here.

Problem 3

If you have tried all the above, it's likely you don't have a Virtual Machine.  If you're an XP user, this is highly possible, other users should not have this problem.

Do you have Virtual Machine?
Search your computer for msjava.dll.  If it finds it (c:\windows\system or c:\winnt\system (or system32)) then you have virtual machine, if it doesn't:

XP users: You may obtain Java Virtual Machine from Microsoft in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack1
Other users: You should perform your Windows Updates in order to obtain Microsoft Virtual Machine or go here to download a full version.

If it does (and you disabled sun as in stepp2 above):

Yahoo! Users - re install applet

If neither of those fixed it, and you are trying to fix Yahoo! Chat Java, perform the following:
goto C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files\
Location, and delete the "Yahoo! Chat" class file.
Re-try Yahoo! Chat.
